Action for Socio Economic Development (ASED)
ASED is a registered, Liberian-based local non-governmental organization (NGO) established on the premise that culture is not sufficiently taken into account in development and, as a result, many development initiatives are not sustained because they tend to depend on external thinking and resources. The Foundation is driven by the conviction that culture, if analyzed and harnessed, is a resource, and the basis for sustainable development. Some aspects of culture are no longer relevant or may be perceived as harmful in the current context, and these need to be analysed in respect to their origin, rationale, and function before being discarded as primitive, irrelevant and negative. Positive aspects of culture should be recognized and harnessed to inform modern development prescriptions; to a large extent, Liberia’s political history and contemporary education.
